Cedar is non-toxic as seen in the EPA report   EPA R.E.D. Fact Sheet

The following is a quote from the R.E.D. Facts sheet, EPA-738-F-93-008, Sept, 1993 on Wood Oils and Gums: "…the EPA is not aware of any evidence of injury to human health or the environment due to their (cedar oil) use." .

Cedar is not toxic to humans. In fact, Cedar has many health benefits including the elimination of excess fluids that cause edema. The removal of excess fluids aids in detoxification, weight loss and improved oxygenation of cells. Cedar wood also produces oil that has been used for over 3000 years to prevent or cure illnesses. Cedar oil contains terpenes which, as defined by Webster's Dictionary are, "…Any one of a series of isomer hydrocarbons of pleasant aromatic odor…" In other words, terpenes are pleasant smelling essential oils that are used for beauty, healing, and rejuvenation.

Any wood including cedar could be harmful to humans if the wood dust is inhaled continuously over time in places like saw mills or wood factories. However, the normal use of a sauna made with Cedar wood is safe for the human body. No case has ever been reported to any government agency or research institution regarding any health problems related to using a cedar wood sauna.
